Unlatching officially begins with 60 titles!

The first batch of titles from the KU Select 2016 collection has now been unlatched and can be downloaded by anyone, anywhere.

KU Select 2016 is a collection of 343 Humanities and Social Sciences titles from 54 publishers. Around 270 libraries and consortia throughout the world pledged their support to successfully fund Open Access versions of all of the titles.

In the first batch, 60 Humanities and Social Sciences e-books are now available for download as a PDF free of charge to the end user. Each title carries a Creative Commons licence agreed between the publisher and author, allowing for their book to become Open Access without embargo.

KU titles can be accessed on KU’s official hosts’ platforms: OAPEN and HathiTrust.

The first books to be unlatched from this collection are from the following publishers: Dartmouth College Press, Duke University Press, Edinburgh University Press, John Benjamins, Pluto Press, Rutgers University Press, University of Michigan Press, University of North Texas Press, University Press of Colorado and Utah State University Press. Titles range from “Energy without Conscience: Oil, Climate Change, and Complicity” to “Prehistoric Myths in Modern Political Philosophy”, “The Profit Doctrine: Economists of the Neoliberal Era” and “Contemporary Carioca: Technologies of Mixing in a Brazilian Music Scene”.

Receive automatic updates as soon as new titles are available!

The unlatching will continue on an ongoing basis and libraries can subscribe to receive automatic notifications for every new title via the KU Library Portal. Once unlatched, the basic MARC catalogue records will be available directly on the OAPEN website. Enriched records will follow shortly thereafter, also on HathiTrust's site. A special note about the MARC records can be found here.

So spread the news about the unlatching of these great titles amongst your colleagues and friends, and tell us what you think of Knowledge Unlatched’s mission here!
